Creating a vacancy for an Apprentice

I decided to recruit an Apprentice after meeting Louise Clubley at my business networking group. She had placed a number of Apprentices with other members who’d been impressed with Hull Business Training Centre, as well as the candidates themselves.

South Hunsley Sixth Form College held a careers event where I met a group of A-Level students getting ready for their exams whilst trying to decide on the employment route or going to University.

We created a vacancy for an Apprentice and a couple of students from South Hunsley came for an interview.

Then COVID-19 happened…

As the realities of the virus struck, I was hesitant about continuing with our recruitment plans for expansion, planning for the future was put on hold whilst getting to grips with the new way of working.

A work trial had been arranged at Easter for Beth which wasn’t possible but to her credit, she kept in touch and her enthusiasm and persistence was impressive – she wasn’t going to let an opportunity slip through her fingers.

Over the last couple of weeks Beth has been doing some paid work experience with a view to starting the Apprenticeship in September.

Corona Class of 2020

I do feel for young people who’ve worked towards A-Levels and GCSEs this summer. It is difficult enough deciding what to do in life without the threat of mass redundancy and unemployment reducing the potential opportunities.

At the moment Divine Clark PR is just the two of us, my husband Leigh and myself. We have both continued to work from home throughout lockdown and the business has remained intact, which we are very grateful for and I know that in order to grow, I have to let go.

Working in PR is such an amazing job and the role here at Divine Clark PR is a brilliant opportunity – I could have sold it to myself just reading the job description. It will involve learning how to use social media for business, getting to know our clients, what they do, who they are talking to and developing brand messages. Judging by the work Beth has done already shows she is very capable.
