Did you know that over 500 million people interact with Instagram stories every day? Since their launch, followers have gone mad for Stories and rightly so. This feature has taken the social media world by storm, creating a level of interaction for users that has never been seen before.

After the success of the feature on Snapchat, Stories have been rolled out across other prominent platforms in recent years, with huge popularity on Instagram especially. If you’ve ever thought about experimenting with Stories to boost your reach or engagement, now is the perfect time.

As a PR agency, we have seen the success of Stories for our clients and know that you could miss a valuable opportunity to grow your business by neglecting your social media. Hence, we have put this guide together, covering everything you need to know about Stories, from content to best platforms.
What are Stories?

Social media stories are full-screen, vertical images or videos that last for 24 hours. They act as another form of content, separate from your main feed posts, offering more opportunities for engagement through their various features.
What should you add to a story?

Anything that will be of interest to your followers! Keep it fun, but professional and consider whether your content will be of value. If you’re stuck for time or ideas, make use of your social media posts – you could use the video or images included, or create a story around the topic.

Stories boost your profile, so don’t shy away from sharing your good work. Perhaps you could share your tips and client testimonials or promote any awards/recognitions that your business gets
How do you create a story?

You can upload photos, videos and text as standard, but additional features will vary across platforms. The process you need to take will also vary, but here are some handy guides to creating Stories on the main platforms:

Instagram
Facebook
LinkedIn
What is the best platform to use for stories?

Ultimately, if you want to maximise the success of your social media efforts, you should create stories across all of your platforms. We would recommend targeting Facebook and LinkedIn, but without doubt your main priority should be Instagram.

Instagram has a vast range of interactive features – polls, quizzes, countdowns, donations etc. – that will encourage your followers to engage with your content and have them returning to your page, time and time again.
How often should you create stories?

Some people would argue “the more, the better” when it comes to stories. We agree with this to an extent – the more consistent you are, the better results you will have – but it is equally important not to overdo it. Posting too often during the day risks being seen as spam, with followers more likely to swipe off your story and miss the rest of your content as a result.

Consequently, we would recommend creating a story at least every other day, up to a maximum of five stories a day.

If all of this sounds like a lot to take in, don’t worry, we can help! At Divine Clark PR, we generate creative social media content everyday. This allows our clients to have more time to focus on the areas of expertise.
